Staging ~ or rearranging ~ any room is great fun when you have just a few helpful hints. There are three primary elements to consider:
1.) Focus on one or two of your favorite things in the room, for example an art piece like a vase or a painting, area rugs, your favorite chair or window treatment. Keep the pieces that have meaning for you ~ the ones you really love ~ and compliment those elements with other items you may already have in other rooms. Don’t be afraid to switch things out and try accents you may have tucked away or are “hiding in plain sight” elsewhere. Then, please clear your clutter and remember that less truly is more!
2.) Function is very important when changing a room in your home. Consider how you want to use the room, adjust your furniture sizes and the lighting to compliment it’s best use. Whether your room is very small or very large, you can soften corners and enhance areas by angling furniture pieces to allow energy and light to flow more easily. Try lowering the pictures on your walls also ~ bring the eye level down a bit because more often than not, we are sitting in each room, rather than standing. Grouping pictures in odd numbers is also fun to try ~ working in odd numbers for any decorating need is key. Stay focused on the function you want the room to have and it will be easier to create the space to fit your needs best.
3.) Relax and page through magazines! You’ll find all kinds of wonderful ideas for decorating by simply looking through magazines, catalogs, stores and art shows. Take a closer look at your favorite restaurant and other public places to see what it is about those surroundings that make you feel good ~ pay attention to small details and use them in your home too.
